Job Posting: BUC-RISP Summer Events Coordinator
Job Description
The Summer Event Coordinator’s main responsibility will be to plan, organize, and coordinate the Beaconsfield United Church Refugee Integration and Support Program(BUC-RISP) picnic. This is an event that gathers refugees and refugee claimants from across Montreal (particularly West African Refugees, who make up the majority of BUC-RISP participants) for an afternoon of food, fun, and community. Specific tasks will include meeting with and coordinating volunteers; planning a schedule of events and activities; helping to promote the event; organizing the purchase and/or rental of supplies and equipment. The summer event coordinator will also help to plan and execute 1-2 other, smaller events. The nature of these additional event(s) will be decided by the Summer Event Coordinator, in conjunction with other BUC staff.
The Summer Event Coordinator will receive mentoring and coaching from other BUC-RISP staff to help them in learning their role and carrying out their duties.
Qualifications and Skills
•Enjoy communicating and working with others
•Experience with teamwork
•Attention to detail and organizational skills
•Creativity
•Candidates who are members of the community BUC-RISP serves (refugees and asylum seekers; West African immigrants) are encouraged to apply
•Candidates must be between the ages of 15 and 30*
•Candidates must be a permanent resident, Canadian Citizen, or have Refugee status*
Hours and Pay
•15.25 hourly @ 30 hours per week for six weeks
•Start date somewhat flexible; on or around the first week of July
*Because this position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, age and status requirements are non-negotiable.
